Rev Up!
A high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of automotive training in a technical college program is the minimum education recommended for a career in the automotive service industry. Industry apprenticeships are a common way to get on-the-job training.

Shift Gears!
Entry-level technicians will progress through several stages on their way to becoming a skilled master technician. There are also opportunities to move into other areas of an automotive service facility, such as team leader, shop manager, production manager, service writer, estimator or parts specialist. Many technicians start their own businesses.

Supercharge Your Paycheck!
Yearly earning potential can be in the range of $25,000 to well over $75,000, depending on the skill level, experience, type of work performed and geographic location. Medical insurance, paid vacation and retirement plans are common fringe benefits. Most employees work between 40 and 48 hours per week.
