The Benefits of Getting Involved

Greg Kasel, AASPMN Mechanical Director • July 7, 2026

A MESSAGE FROM AASPMN

Hello All, I am Greg Kasel owner of Downtown Tire & Auto in Hastings. I am in my 28th year of owning the shop. I took it over from my dad back in 1998. We celebrated 50 years of family ownership in 2024.

When I took over the shop from my dad in 1998, another shop owner in town told me to join the association to learn from others in the industry. A few years after I joined, I was asked to be on the Mechanical Advisory Committee.

By becoming involved, I was able to meet many successful shop owners and take valuable training. It was that training in which I realized I needed to hire a service advisor. This enabled me to become more involved in other things and work on the business, rather than in the business.

I guess what it comes down to is – please get involved in the many activities, training and other things that can help you be more successful in running your business. Am I perfect? Heck no, but when you meet people and talk shop you usually will find something that can help you be more efficient in running your business.

Also look into AASPMN’s preferred providers on page 23. You can possibly save some money, which always helps in running a business.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the AASPMN office at aasp@aaspmn.org or (612)623-1110.
